Menurut Biro Pusat Statistik (BPS), Ekspor Indonesia bulan Januari telah menyusut 36% dari setahun lalu, angka tertajam sejak 1986.
Ekspor mulai menurun sejak bulan Oktober 2008, menurut BPS. Negara membentuk total ekspor, mencakup minyak dan gas, sebesar AS$136.76 milyar di tahun 2008 — hampir naik 20% dari $114.1 milyar yang tercatat tahun sebelumnya. BI juga mengestimasi impor untuk produk non-migas akan merosot antara 24 sampai 27 persen tahun ini. Mayoritas eksportir lokal telah mengimpor barang-barang modal untuk menghasilkan barang-barang ekspor yang bernilai tambah.
